About the role Ventia is currently seeking individuals to join our Care & Custody team across South Australia. Successful applicants will commence as Trainee Care & Custody Officers, undertaking comprehensive training and development while working towards a Certificate III in Correctional Practice. Upon successful completion of training and all role requirements, trainees will have the opportunity to progress into a Care & Custody Officer role. Available Locations: • Port Lincoln • Port Augusta • Mount Gambier • Adelaide Metro Ventia is seeking individuals with a flexible mindset and strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly, manage conflict calmly, and navigate challenging situations with confidence. Our Care & Custody Officers are respectful, non-judgemental, and committed to treating everyone with dignity and fairness. Casual Trainee Opportunities: Seeking candidates with flexibility to work 8–12-hour shifts, with a strong focus on nights and weekends. • This role operates within a 24/7 environment and may involve coverage across various shifts. • Applicants must be willing to work weekends. • Opportunity to progress into a Care & Custody Officer role upon successful completion of training. • Casual pay rate starting at $34.71 for the first 3 months, after this time there will be an opportunity for a mix of casual and permanent roles. Key Responsibilities: • Ensure safety and security of Persons in Custody. • Escort and transport Persons in Custody. • Provide care in hospital and court settings. Requirements: • Driver’s licence (MR Truck licence highly regarded). • Willingness to obtain First Aid certification. • Available for travel (road and air). • Australian working rights. • Ability to pass Police checks, Working with Children Check, and pre-employment medical (including drug & alcohol test). • You must be available to attend face-to-face training commencing 21 September 2026.
