Health, Safety and Wellbeing

Metro is committed to the safety of its employees, with safe systems and a wellbeing team that includes peer supporters and wellness advocates. Metro offers many employee discounts, promoted throughout the year. The organisation recently won awards for its work with Rail R U OK? month and a series of online health sessions called Stay Connected.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The Employee Assistance Program is a confidential service for employees and their immediate families, offering financial or psychological counselling. Employees can call at any time, and no leader or manager is made aware if contact is made.

Free travel

Metro employees are provided with a Myki card for free public transport travel within Victoria.

What to Expect When Applying at Metro

Applying

We review your application against the position's criteria. If your skills and experience match, we will contact you by phone, text or email.

Interview

If shortlisted, you will be invited to a group interview (known at Metro as assessment centres), a telephone interview and/or face-to-face interviews. Bring photo identification, qualifications, certifications and eligibility to work in Australia.

Depending on the role, you may complete online skills assessments such as psychometric assessments, including verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning, cognitive ability, role plays and personality tests. We will give you practice questions so you know what to expect.

Selection Finalisation

You will complete a criminal history check, which involves uploading identification documents, and we will conduct professional employment reference checks with two current referees you have reported to in recent roles. In operating Safely Always, all candidates must complete a Medical Screening. There are 4 categories of medical screening that align with the role you're applying for. You are offered the role

Once you have passed all stages of selection finalisation, you will be offered the role. Congratulations!

Paperwork

Once you have verbally accepted the offer, you'll be emailed the paperwork to complete online. Once it's done, you are ready to start.

There will be a lot to learn in your first few weeks. The Metro induction and training program will help you build strong relationships with your key stakeholders, learn your job requirements and acquire essential knowledge.
