What we collect and why

This notice is given at the time we collect your personal information, in line with Australian Privacy Principle 5. It tells you who is collecting your information, why, what happens if you don’t provide it, and who it may be disclosed to. For the full picture of how we handle your information, see our Privacy Policy.

Who is collecting it

The Knack app collects your information to help you find apprenticeships, traineeships and cadetships and to connect you with employers.

What we collect

  • Identity and contact — your name and email address.
  • Your profile — interests, motivations, preferences, work environments, deal-breakers, readiness (stage, licence, transport, tickets, checks), location and relocation answers.
  • Optional background — age group, gender, and Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status, only if you choose to share them.

Why we collect it (the purpose)

We collect this information to create your account, to match you to roles and show you an honest fit for each one, and — when you choose to express interest — to introduce you to an employer. Optional background information helps us improve the opportunities and services we offer and support fair, inclusive hiring; providing it is entirely your choice.

What happens if you don’t provide it

You must provide a name and email to create and secure an account. Your profile answers are needed for us to match you to roles — the more you share, the more accurate your matches. Optional background information is never required: leaving it blank does not affect your matches or your ability to apply to any role.

Who it may be disclosed to

When you express interest in a role, the profile details needed for that connection are shared with the relevant employer. We also use trusted service providers (for hosting in Australia, email delivery, and error monitoring) that process data on our behalf under contract. We do not sell your personal information. Full detail, including overseas disclosure, is in our Privacy Policy.
