Trainee Mechanical Technician · Woolloomooloo, NSW
As a Trainee Mechanical Technician you'd spend 4 years working toward an Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical) while based at Garden Island in Sydney. Your day-to-day work would involve installing naval equipment on ships and on shore, testing and commissioning mechanical systems, tracking down faults in mechanical weapons equipment, and repairing mechanical systems on Navy and commercial vessels. You'd need to have already finished a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade before starting. The work involves being comfortable at heights and in confined spaces in a fast-paced setting. Because it's defence work, you must be an Australian citizen and be able to get a security clearance, plus pass police and medical checks before you start.
