Today more than 40 per cent of senior executives are women, the Executive Leadership Team has been gender balanced for some time, and overall female representation has more than doubled to more than 35 per cent. At South Flank, BHP's newest iron ore mine in Western Australia, the workforce is 40 per cent female and 15 per cent Indigenous. Flexibility is central to how that culture works in practice. BHP asks everyone what their own version of flex looks like, creating new definitions of flexible work where traditionally there were none, and it has found this to be the single biggest driver of greater workforce diversity.
